Your Complete Dried Flower FAQ

Care & Longevity

How long do dried flowers last?

Dried flowers can last months to years with proper care. Some varieties (like lavender, hydrangea, and strawflower) can last 3+ years, while delicate grasses may naturally soften over time.

How do I care for dried flowers?

  • Keep them out of direct sunlight
  • Avoid humidity and moisture
  • Dust gently with a soft brush or cool hairdryer
  • Keep away from radiators, bathrooms, and kitchens
  • Handle with care — dried stems are delicate

Do dried flowers fade?

Yes — all dried flowers fade slightly over time. Sunlight speeds this up, so display them in a shaded area for the longest colour life.

Do dried flowers shed?

Some varieties shed more than others. Grasses, pampas, and bunny tails may drop small fibres. Sturdier stems like strawflower, helichrysum, and statice shed very little.

Can dried flowers get wet?

No — water will damage them. Keep them dry at all times.

Styling & Use

Can I use dried flowers for weddings?

Absolutely. Dried flowers are perfect for weddings, bridesmaids bouquets, buttonholes, table centrepieces, flower crowns, and keepsakes. They’re long‑lasting, lightweight, and can be made well in advance.

Planning a wedding? Explore our Dried Flower Wedding Collection.

Do dried flowers have a scent?

Some do (like lavender), but most dried flowers have a very light or neutral scent.

What size bouquet should I choose?

Small: desks, shelves, gifts
Medium: everyday home décor, vases 15–25 cm
Large: statement pieces, weddings, table centrepieces

If you’re unsure, measure your vase or space and we can recommend the perfect size.

Can I make my own dried flower arrangements?

Yes — dried flowers are perfect for DIY craft projects, wreaths, bouquets, buttonholes, and home décor. They’re easy to work with and don’t require water or conditioning.

Safety & Sustainability

Are dried flowers safe around pets?

Most dried flowers are safe, but some plants can be toxic if eaten (delphiniums for example). Keep arrangements out of reach of curious pets and children.

 Are dried flowers eco‑friendly?

Yes — dried flowers are a sustainable alternative to imported fresh flowers which often have a high carbon footprint according to the UK Flower Industry Report. They require no water, no chemicals, and last far longer, reducing waste.

Do dried flowers attract insects?

Dried flowers don’t naturally attract insects. They don’t have nectar, moisture, or scent that draws bugs in. However, clothes moths can be attracted to certain dried botanicals, not because they’re flowers but because moths like: natural fibres, plant material, dusty, undisturbed areas. Displayed in a vase or on a shelf, or as décor in a lived-in room, dried flowers rarely have insect issues. They’re dry, low-scent and not a food source.

Storage & Maintenance

How should I store dried flowers?

Store them in a cool, dry place, ideally in a box lined with tissue paper. Keep them flat and protected from dust and sunlight.

Can I place dried flowers in direct sunlight?

You can, but they will fade faster. For longest life, keep them in indirect light.

Can I refresh or revive dried flowers?

You can gently reshape bent stems with warm hands, trim ends, or replace individual stems. But dried flowers cannot be rehydrated.
